GMC Srinagar Hosts Evening Surgical Discourse | KNO

Srinagar, Nov 29 (KNO): The Post Graduate Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar organized an academic event ‘An Evening Surgical Discourse: Beyond Closure–Science of Healing, Strength of Repair’ here on Saturday. The event brought together eminent surgeons, faculty members, postgraduate students, and surgical trainees for an evening of scientific discussion focused on two vital themes—'Chronic Wounds and Complex Hernias.’ The discourse was inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal, Government Medical College Srinagar, who commended the department for its consistent efforts in promoting academic excellence and clinical innovation. The event according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) was organised under the chairmanship of Prof. (Dr.) Iqbal Saleem Mir, Head of the Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery, and coordinated by Prof. (Dr.) Organising Secretary Mushtaq Ahmad Mir along with Joint Organising Secretaries Dr Tahir Saleem Khan and Dr Hanief Mohammad Dar. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Iqbal Saleem Mir emphasized the importance of continued learning and collaboration in modern surgical practice. He said that “The true art of surgery lies beyond closure in understanding the science of healing and the strength of repair that restores our patients to wellness.” The program featured expert lectures, case discussions, and interactive sessions led by distinguished surgeons who shared their insights and experiences in managing complex surgical conditions. The discourse provided a valuable platform for young surgeons and postgraduate trainees to engage with senior faculty and gain exposure to advanced techniques and evidence-based practices. A special Obituary Section was also included in the program to honour the memory of three former Professors of Surgery including Prof Peerzada Abdul Rashid Fazili, Prof MS Misger and Prof Syed Ashiq Hussain Naqshbandi from GMC Srinagar who passed away in recent years. “Their lifelong dedication to teaching, patient care, and mentorship was remembered with deep respect and reverence.” The occasion was attended by expert faculty from GMC Srinagar, SKIMS Soura, SKIMS Medical College Srinagar and other peripheral medical colleges of the valley Prof Muneer Khan, Prof Muhammad Shafi, Prof Nazir Salroo, Prof Nissar Ahmad Wani, Prof Parvez Ahmad Shah, Prof Mufti Mahmood Ahmad and Prof Naseer Ahmad Awan were gracious enough to bless the gathering with their presence.
